The Del Playa Marathon, Isla Vista, CA, May 2010 2500 custom marathon bibs, 10,000 safety pins, 1080 ft. finish line tape, 40 gallons water, 3000 dixie cups, 30 volunteers, 1 mobile podium In collaboration with Katy McCarthy
The Del Playa Marathon used the language and forms of an authentic marathon to alter how pedestrians experienced the street. The path between parties became the last lap before the finish line, with contestants running, walking, stumbling, and cycling their way through. With no beginning, no end, and multiple finish lines, The Del Playa Marathon indiscriminately awarded recognition to whoever happened across the podium.
